Born in Lahore in 1976, British artist Shama Sahzayasin is an interdisciplinary artist and ecofeminist theorist based in London.

The visceral language of Sahzayasin’s practice moves through diverse mediums and expansive watercolours, whose surfaces break across states of emergence. Pigment, gesture, and suspended forms create choreographies of tension—composed yet porous—open to rupture. These liquid registers evoke biopolitical frontiers where macro-political forces meet the intimate terrains of embodied life, reanimating the pulse of decolonial ecofeminist praxis.

Sahzayasin’s work traces how compressed violences settle into the architectures of everyday life. Through her writings and poetry, she unearths the ideological seams that shape multispecies conditions, tracking the ways harm circulates across social, historical, and planetary systems. This orientation forms the foundation of Multispecies (Co)mm(unity) Art (De)liberation: Kind(red) Futures, a conceptual framework founded by Sahzayasin that repositions creative practice towards (re)visions.

Sahzayasin has exhibited in group exhibitions in the UK and internationally.  In 2024, she was a prize-winning artist at the Festival Internacional Imagem de Natureza, Portugal. While completing her MA in Art & Ecology at Goldsmiths, London (2025), Sahzayasin’s installation Blood Scent: Appetite for Extinction was shortlisted for the Arts Thread Global Graduates Showcase, in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture and the Monaco Foundry.

Sahzayasin uses sustainable methods and sources art materials in alignment with her environmental ethics.
